Katie Melua Live at Club Passim - The Photos

Katie MeluaAs promised, here are some of the pictures from the intimate Katie Melua gig in Cambridge, MA this past Wednesday. Such a good show! Katie was brilliant, funny, and beautiful. So glad I got a chance to see her live. My only regret is that I wish I knew how to take better flash-less photos. I need to get a little stand for my digital camera or something.

New Jordin Sparks Promotional Photo & Paradiso Girls Video Leak

Jordin SparksA couple of other little blurbs...saw a new photo of Jordin Sparks pop up on The Prophet. It looks like it's been tagged as an exclusive from Jordin-Sparks.org and apparently is part of a new batch of promotional photos for her upcoming new album. Whatever this photo is from - it's undeniable. Jordin looks fabulous!

Check out Jordin Sparks on the web: Official Site/MySpace/Facebook/Twitter/YouTube

Paradiso Girls
Another fun bit I found on The Prophet was the leaked Paradiso Girls video for "Patron Tequila" featuring Lil Jon & Eve. It's a fun video! Apparently it's out in a couple of weeks on iTunes. I'd get this one for my iPod as well. The girls look great and I still am feeling this song. I do agree with Prophet that the choreography is lacking in this video. Perhaps they'll show us what sort of moves they got in the next video.

Lady Gaga - Paparazzi Cover Art Revealed

Lady Gaga - PaparazziOfficial Cover art via Coverlandia

I don't know if I should be offended when I watch the new Lady Gaga video for "Paparazzi" or love it. I think I love it because I love EVERYTHING Gaga. She looks amazing. The almost 8 minute-long video has a bit too much of a storyline, but I guess that's what makes it different. Perez Hilton calls it epic and I'm inclined to agree. I'm on the Ebay-hunt for upcoming remixes by Moto Blanco, Filthy Dukes, Stuart Price and more. Gaga delivers once again. Oh, and the Lady G has taken to Twitter, telling off those "motherf***ers" who keep leaking her videos. I'll definitely buy this on when it comes out on iTunes and you all should too!

Katie Melua's Amazing Live Performance at Club Passim

Katie Melua Photo by Andreas Terslaak via katiemelua.com

Just got back from an intimate and fabulous Katie Melua show at Club Passim in Cambridge, MA. Wow. Brilliant. Absolutely stunning. Melua is a master class, her voice seamlessly floats into its upper register and back down into her smokey lower range. I got some poor quality images sans flash, which I will post this weekend. All in all, a fabulous performance! So glad I got to see her in an intimate setting, especially considering she can fill the O2 Arena in London. The equally brilliant David Berkeley opened, with Jordan Katz on banjo & horn. Great show. Great food. Great company. Now, I must get through the remainder of the week.

Katie Melua Live at the O2 ArenaMelua's new album "Pictures" is out everywhere now. Her live CD, Live at the O2 Arena is out on CD in the UK. Check out David Berkeley's website or iTunes for his latest music.

In other news, just ordered the brilliant new Mandy Moore record on Amazon's BlackBerry application yesterday - which I love. And on the complete opposite end of the musical spectrum, considering spending $70 + a new Girls Aloud Singles Boxed set, including remixes, b-sides and other rarities. Check out the meaty tracklisting here for all the goodies! Pre-order this baby now. It's out in July.

So much music, so little time!

Most Anticipated Summer Albums

Here it goes, my most anticipated albums of the next couple of months. If there's an album that I've missed or if you have a suggestion, feel free to leave me a comment! I'm always up for hearing new music.

June
Dan Merriweather
Daniel Merriweather - Love & War (June 1st)
Aussie pop star Daniel Merriweather is poised to release his second solo album (the first of which was never released) on June 1st in the UK. The record contains the UK top 10 hit "Change," as well as his current single, "Red." I first heard Merriweather's vocals on Mark Ronson's fabulous "Stop Me," followed by an appearance on Wiley's single "Cash In My Pocket." I'm glad he's now in the spotlight, as he truly has a fantastic voice and he's super cute to boot.

Check out Daniel Merriweather on the web: Official Site/MySpace/Facebook/Twitter/Bebo/YouTube

Little Boots
Little Boots – Hands (June 8th)
British electropop artist Little Boots releases her debut album on June 8th. I first heard her on a remix of her first single "Meddle" and was instantly intrigued. I then heard her doing an acoustic version of Kid Cudi's "Day 'N' Nite." Brilliant. Her new single "New In Town" is equally amazing, as is the Fred Falke remix. Written in LA with Greg Kurstin and Joe Goddard I'm still hoping this one gets a U.S. release. U.S. TV host Carson Daly did an entire show dedicated to her and she made an appearance at the prestigious SXSW festival in Texas, so hopefully this is a good sign for us U.S. fans.

Black Eyed Peas
Black Eyed Peas - The E.N.D. (The Energy Never Dies) (June 9th)
I've never been a huge Black Eyed Peas fan, in fact I never really listened to them before Fergie joined the group. Their upcoming album, released Stateside on June 9th (June 8th in the UK) appears to be right up my alley. The electro-infused hip hop beats that make up first single "Boom Boom Pow" marks a new direction for the band. I don't know how die hard fans of the Peas like the new sound, but to me, it's a sound that's very fresh and Euro. Follow up single " I Gotta Feelin'" produced by David Guetta sounds a little bit too pop for my liking, while digital only release "Imma Bee" follow more closely in style to "Boom Boom Pow." "Alive" will be released as another digital-only single on May 26th. We'll see what the E.N.D. result will be. I'm optimistic.

Gossip Gossip - Music For Men (June 23rd)
This marks the major label debut for the U.S. Indie Rock group Gossip. The group's fourth album comes out in the UK on June 22nd and the next day in the U.S. While they've traditionally had more success in the UK, with some proper promotion, they could do well in the U.S. Backed by a strong gay following, the groups most popular single, "Standing In The Way of Control" was all about gay marriage. On my last trip to the UK I picked up the album of the same name as well as an EP of dance remixes from that album. Good stuff. "Heavy Cross" is the first single off this new album, available on iTunes now.

Check out Gossip on the web: Official Site/MySpace/YouTube

Regina Spektor
Regina Spektor – Far (June 23rd)
I admittedly only recently joined the Regina Spektor fanclub, namely after her song "Fidelity" became well known here in the states and "On The Radio" appeared on an episode of "Grey's Anatomy." Since then, I purchased her last album Begin To Hope and as a result, have 2 new favorite tracks - "Samson," & "Better." I'm sad that her new album hasn't really received much in the way of promotion as of yet. New single "Laugh With" barely hit iTunes with a whisper and the album is coming out next month! Her new music sounds very similar to songs on her last album, so chances are I'm going to love this new one as well.

Check out Regina Spektor on the web: Official Site/MySpace/YouTube

La Roux
La Roux – La Roux (June 29th)
La Roux is the next big thing to come out of the UK. This electropop duo is made up of singer Elly Jackson and producer/co-writer Ben Langmaid. With a sound heavily influenced by by 1980s synth pop including Eurythmics, Depeche Mode, The Human League, Yazoo and Prince, La Roux brings a distinctive style to their music and I expect big things from their debut album on Polydor. So far two singles have been released, "Quicksand" and "In For The Kill" which peaked on the UK charts at number 2. Third single, "Bulletproof" is released on June 15th.

Check out La Roux on the web: Official Site/MySpace/Facebook/YouTube

July
Dan Black
Dan Black – ((Un)) (July 6th)
Formerly part of English alternative band, The Servant, Dan Black is now a solo entity since the band split up in 2007. Black now is set to release his solo debut, ((Un)) on July 6th in the UK. The first single, "Yours" was released in fall of 2008, while follow up single "Alone" came out this past March. According to a blog post, Black was all set to film the video to his brilliant third single, "Hypnotz" (a loose cover of "Hypnotz" by the late, great Notorious B.I.G. before it was all nixed due to legal issues. Apparently, Biggie's estate wasn't allowing anyone to use Biggie's lyrics. Instead, Black wrote a new song "Symphonies" which will serve as the new single, out on June 29th. This is disappointing to me, as I loved "Hypnotz" so much. We will move forward somehow and Dan Black's album will still no doubt be brilliant.

Check out Dan Black on the web: Official Site/MySpace/YouTube/Twitter

Frankmusik Frankmusik - Complete Me (July 13th)
Yet another UK electropop artist for me to love - Frankmusik releases his hotly anticipated debut album on July 13th in the UK. Previously having opened for such acts as Sam Sparro and Keane and the upcoming Pet Shop Boys tour - Frankmusik is ready to explode onto the scene. Both a remixer and a writer, he's completed remixes for Alphabeat, Pet Shop Boys and Mika. He's also working with Holly Valance. His next single, "Confusion Girl" looks to be a hot one just as previous singles "3 Little Words" and "Better Off As Two" were.

Check out Frankmusik on the web: Official Site/MySpace/Facebook/Twitter/YouTube

VV Brown VV Brown - Travelling Like The Light (July 20th)
I'm so excited for this album, I can hardly contain myself! Everything about VV Brown is just so infectious! Her voice, her sense of style, her pure talent - everything! I wish this album was coming out now! From promotional single "Crying Blood," to her first official release "Leave!" and upcoming single "Shark In The Water" - everything this lady puts out is pure genius. Her music has a little bit of everything - soul, rock, pop, electronica - it's the perfect mix!

Check out VV Brown on the web: Official Site/Blog/Facebook/Bebo/YouTube/Twitter

Jordin SparksJordin Sparks – Battlefield (July 21st)
This American Idol knows how to churn out the hits, as evidenced by all three singles off her last album hitting the top 20 on Billboard's Pop and Hot 100 charts. Her new single co-written by OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder is already doing well on the digital charts and is officially released to radio this week. Sparks just announced via Twitter that the album will be released on July 21st and that the video for "Battlefield" is near completion. Her new album features contributions from hitmakers like Stargate, Dr. Luke, Max Martin, Claude Kelly, Lucas Secon, Toby Gad, and Jesse McCartney. This album is going to be epic!

Space Cowboy tweets from the set of "Patron Tequila" Video Shoot

Paradiso Girls According to Space Cowboy via his Twitter, he's on set with the Paradiso Girls for the filming of Ray Kay directed "Patron Tequila" video. The girls recently appeared in his music video for the song "Falling Down" which I love! I can't wait for this video!

Space Cowboy
iTunes has got rid of the original release with Lil Jon, replacing it with the version with Eve, which apparently is the new single version of the song. In other news, you can buy dance remixes from DJ Dan and Dave Audé on Masterbeat. The remix version just features Lil Jon, not Eve.

Chelsea Korka
Their album Crazy Horse, will be released this year. The Paradiso Girls worked with producers such as Fernando Garibay, will.i.am, Sean Garrett, Cee-Lo Green, Tricky, The-Dream, and Lucas Secon.

I'm Going to See Kylie in Chicago!

Kylie Minogue - North American Tour 2009 It's (almost) official! I'm going to see Kylie Minogue on October 7th in Chicago! So excited! All that's left to do now is pay back my friend who bought the (almost $100) tickets, and get a flight to Chicago. Still...VERY exciting! Tickets go on sale to the general public on May 16th!

New Music: Jordin Sparks' Battlefield

Jordin SparksPhoto available at JordinSparks.com

The new Jordin Sparks single has leaked in full and it's AMAZING (Popjustice thinks so too!). I love it! The track was written by Ryan Tedder (of OneRepublic) who has written & produced songs for the likes of Leona Lewis ("Bleeding Love"), Hilary Duff, Jennifer Hudson, Shayne Ward, Natasha Bedingfield and countless others.

I agree with The Prophet, who compares it to Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway." It totally straddles the line between R&B and Top 40 pop and I can see this doing well on the radio here in the States. The single is released digitally in the States tomorrow (May 12th), goes to radio on May 25th and comes out in the UK on June 22nd.

Jordin Sparks - BattlefieldSparks is also expected to perform the new single on Wednesday's American Idol results show, with Ryan Tedder accompanying her on the guitar. Sparks doesn't always sound brilliant live so I'm hoping for the best with her live performance. Either way, I can't wait for this song! JAM!

EDIT: I forgot! I just received my German CD Maxi of Jordin's "One Step At A Time" with 4 remixes (Jason Nevins, Mike Rizzo, Tonal & Grayson). Yay! Not the best Jordin Sparks single, but I love me some remixes! Get yours at Perfect Beat while supplies last!

Katie Melua Promotes Her Tour & Album in Chicago

Katie MeluaI'm getting excited for the upcoming Katie Melua gig on May 27th in Cambridge. Tickets are ordered and I've got a guest to join me. Katie is in the midst of her 18 city North American tour, hitting up my home town Chicago tomorrow night.

Katie Melua - Mary PickfordMelua's team on Facebook posted video links today of a promotional appearance on Chicago's WGN Channel 9 morning news program. In addition to a short interview, Melua performed "Perfect Circle," of her latest album Pictures, recently released here in the U.S. Also posted was also web-exclusive performance of "Mary Pickford."

I love a good intimate gig and this performance just makes me more excited. I'm just hoping the audience remains mellow and that no fist fights break out.

Kaci Battaglia Channels Britney, Christina & Rihanna on New Single

Kaci Battaglia - Crazy PossessiveKaci Battaglia isn't a name you should recognize, but hopefully it will be one you'll recognize in the not too distant future. Formerly known by her first name only, 21 year-old Kaci Battaglia has been singing since she was young. Signed to Curb Records at a young age, she went on to release a few pop/dance singles. Her second single was the one I remember, a cover of "I Think I Love You," with a dance remix from UK remixers, Almighty.

Kaci BattagliaWhile her last single was released in 2007, her sound up until now, has remained fairly innocent and young. Sugary, bubblegum, fluff-pop. Not bad, but not very relevant as far as contemporary U.S. radio is concerned. Her new single, "Crazy Possessive" is going to change all of that!

Kaci Battaglia
UK music site, Popjustice, accurately compares the song to Britney's "Womanizer," Christina Aguilera's "Keeps Gettin' Better" and Rihanna's "S.O.S.," going as far as to name it last Friday's "Song of the Day." Remixes are by Digital Dog so far. This song is going to be massive! It is released on iTunes May 26th.

Video Premiere: Freemasons feat. Sophie Ellis Bextor

Freemasons & Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Heartbreak Make Me a Dancer
Looks like the Freemasons new video with Sophie Ellis-Bextor leaked last week. I'm thrilled! I love Sophie and I love the Freemasons. This video is magic! Sophie looks (and sounds) fantastic as always and the beats are bumpin' on this jam. I can't wait to hear the remixes. It's released on June 22nd in the UK. Pre-order yours here. Check out the video, here.

New Music: Cobra Starship feat. Leighton Meester

Cobra Starship - Good Girls Go Bad
Cover Art via Coverlandia

While I'm not a die hard Cobra Starship fan, I do enjoy the singles I've heard and what I've heard of their last album. Plus, lead singer Gabe Saporta is very hot. I remember first hearing about the band when the movie and title song, "Snakes on A Plane" was released. I loved both the song and the video.

Gabriel SaportaPhoto by Lauren Dukoff via MySpace

This new single, "Good Girls Go Bad" (available on iTunes May 12th) features actress/singer, Leighton Meester of "Gossip Girl" fame. Meester is in the middle of recording her debut album for Universal Republic, working with such notable producer/writers including JR Rotem (Leona Lewis, Rihanna), Kara Dioguardi (who co-wrote "Good Girls Go Bad") (Kelly Clarkson, Ashley Tisdale), Polow Da Don (The Pussycat Dolls, Ciara), Harvey Mason Jr. (Britney Spears, Jordin Sparks, Jennifer Hudson) and Spencer Nezey (Jupiter Rising).

Cobra StarshipCobra Starship

The Cobra Starship track is actually pretty likable. I can't say that I'm surprised. The big question mark for me was Leighton Meester's vocals. I guess I'm always hesitant when an actress becomes a singer. In all honest if the artist put outs a quality song and/or album, I don't care what sort of artist they are. Leighton's "Gossip Girl" co-star, Taylor Momsen and her band just reportedly got signed to Interscope Records. Again...if it's quality music, I'm all about giving it a chance.

Britney Spears: On Your "Radar"

Britney Spears - Radar Album Artwork Courtesy of Coverlandia

When I heard the news that the new Britney Spears single (her fourth from Circus) would be "Radar," a track originally due to be released as the final single from Blackout, I was disappointed.

Now that I've had time to sit back and think about it a little more, I'm not as disappointed. Sure, Circus has many single-worthy tracks, but honestly, so did Blackout. Britney's label stopped promoting Blackout, instead putting their energy and funds into the making of Circus. This was probably a wise decision. I believe I read somewhere that "Radar" was included as a bonus track to satisfy some sort of contractual obligation that the label had with the producers and/or writers...something like that. I can't for the life of me find this article though, so if anyone knows what I'm talking about please send me a link!

Britney SpearsProduced by Swedish duo Bloodshy & Avant, the track is catchy and while I personally hate the chorus, it's not the worst thing I've heard. It's slowly settling in and I'm becoming more and more comfortable with the label's decision. I'm sure once I hear the remixes and see the video, I'll be even more OK with "Radar" as a single.
