'Music Is My King Size Bed' Gets Some Radio 1 'Chart Blog' Love
Lookie Lookie! I got some blog love from none other than Radio 1's Chart Blog! BIG DEAL! Sure, it's only a six-word quote at the bottom of the page but I'll take what I can get! The quote appears at the bottom of a review of Pixie Lott's new single by Fraser McAlpine. I'm pleased to be the third and final quote and the most positive of the three.
In the review, McAlpine makes some good points, talking about how 5-singles in, the label might be milking this one dry, instead of focusing on creating new material. McAlpine calls "Turn It Up" a "perfectly good album track," but not so much single-worthy - in essence - the album's pool of potential singles has dried up. I totally see where he's coming from...especially when you look at it from a "chart-statistician's" point of view. The first two singles hit #1..."Cry Me Out" peaked at #12..."Gravity" only made it #20. That's a pretty obvious downward trend. I think his point is a good one...quit while you're ahead. Releasing "Turn It Up," "as a fifth single from an already-successful breakthrough album, it's pointless, and worse, might even allow chart-statisticians such as myself the chance to put together a compelling argument that she's failing, when she could be off recording some new, different, amazing songs and preparing to kill us all with brilliance." OK. Agreed. Well said sir.
That being said, what about her planned U.S. promotion? I think it's safe to say that she's going to to release a couple old singles Stateside (maybe her 2 UK #1s?)...as well as some new, more commercially viable (i.e. radio-friendly) material (with the assistance of Jason Derulo and Joe Jonas). I'm really interested to see how she does here. Part of me really thinks she has a chance...while the other part of me is nervous about failure. Hey! I'm pretty sure she has the same thoughts going through her mind. At least she has a solid standing in the UK to fall back on. I still maintain that Lott is "fresh faced and super talented" and for one will be supporting her when she sets foot on this side of the pond.
