Hot Video Alert: The Wanted - Lose My Mind

I may not have been the BIGGEST fan of The Wanted's single "Heart Vacancy" (which BTW has grown on me considerably since the first listening) but third single, "Lose My Mind" takes me back to what I loved about the boys in their first single "All Time Low." The video was filmed at the iconic Coney Island and features the boys in all their hotness, doing their thing, dancing and singing.  The video being filmed in New York only makes me wish they would release some tuneage over on this side of the pond.  In due time I suppose.

"Lose My Mind" showcases their individual vocal talents in the form of a fun, up-tempo track, ripe for the remixing. And remixed this song was...by UK remix extraordinaires 7th Heaven and Cahill. BRILLIANT! The boys (Max, Siva, Jay, Tom and Nathan) have been doing exceedingly well with their debut album. First single "All Time Low" went all the way to the top of the UK singles charts, single #2 peaked at...well...#2. As for their self titled debut album...well it debuted at #4. Not too shabby for a new boy band fresh on the scene. If their past success is any indication, "Lose My Mind" should deservedly go top 5. It's a quality pop song sung by a quality pop group. Check out the boys doing it live on last weekend's X-Factor results show. Ace job boys! "Lose My Mind" is out in the UK on December 27th.

Pierre Lewis Back with Music in 2011...Gives Us Sexy Pics in the Meantime

Photo by Joseph Sinclair via Facebook
Wow. I can't believe it's been nearly three years since I last heard from UK singer/songwriter Pierre Lewis.  Back in November of 2008, Lewis released his debut single "Broken," which went on to peak at #6 on the UK club chart.  In May of the following year he quietly released a song called "Going," which I think I remember...not 100% sure...

No matter! According to Lewis "it's all about 2011!!"  In response to a Tweet where I asked him about his new album, Lewis went on to say "It'll be out next year. We've been holding back and perfecting...the UK's not been ready yet...but pop's fighting back."  Fighting back it is!  Can't wait to hear the new album.  It sounds like the wait will be well worth it.  "Hopefully it'll be well received, so much of my heart and soul is in it."

In the meantime (also according to Lewis via Twitter)...we have a 2011 Pierre Lewis calendar to look forward to.  Scope out the above photos to get an idea for what we can expect. Sign me up! Happy New Year indeed!

Hot Video Alert: Jessica Sierra - Enough

If anyone needs a comeback it's 25 year old pop singer Jessica Sierra. Sierra first came into the spotlight back in 2005 during the fourth season of American Idol where she came in tenth (Carrie Underwood ultimately went on to win). After Idol ended, Sierra signed to indie label Verge Records and released one single, "Unbroken" (check out the video HERE) as well as an EP called Deepest Secret. Unfortunately for Sierra, her post Idol years were not so kind. Sierra next came into the spotlight as a patient on the VH1 reality series Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew where she came clean about her substance abuse problems. After Rehab, Sierra parted ways with her label and signed a new deal with Elite B Records. "Enough," is the first single off her forthcoming debut record Rebound, due sometime this Winter. In talking about the song, Sierra owns up to her past mistakes, saying:
"Everyone makes mistakes. But when those mistakes are made in the eye of the media it's very common for those hardships to define you. 'ENOUGH' is about not letting that happen. It's about owning my past, taking responsibility for my actions and moving on."
While not nearly as catchy as "Unbroken," "Enough" is a good showcase for Sierra's vocal ability. There's never been any doubt about her talent - Simon Cowell even said during her season that she had one of the strongest female vocals in the competition. Now it's all about proving to herself that she still has what it takes to keep going. "Enough" is out now on iTunes, Amazon and through her official website, JessicaSierra.com.

Hot Video Alert: Mylène Farmer - Oui mais... non

Further proof that French singer Mylène Farmer is a Goddess - the brilliantly beautiful video for her new single, "Oui mais... non." A little bit Gaga-esque in concept, the Chris Sweeney-directed video features the ever gorgeous Farmer surrounded by a whole slew of costumed dancers. Ms. Farmer even busts out some fierce dance moves herself. The video, which premiered on November 16th comes out nearly a month after the single's digital release (on October 11th). It's set to be the lead single off of Farmer's forthcoming eighth studio album, Bleu Noir, which is due out in December. The song was co-written by Farmer and RedOne (who was a massive fan of the French artiste) and produced by the latter. Upon it's release in October, the song went straight to #1 on the French Digital Chart before dropping to #17 the following week. Despite having NO idea what she's saying (the title translates to "Yes...but no" I can't stop myself from loving this song. Music is really a universal language in and of itself, so who cares what language the lyrics are written in. Farmer's even found a fan in both Lady Gaga and Kylie Minogue, both of whom have publicly professed their adoration for the track. While I sincerely doubt Farmer will ever hit it big Stateside I would love to see her. She's such a brilliant and iconic artist. Everyone should know her name. "Oui mais... non" was remixed by Tomer G, Jeremy Hills, Klaas and Chew Fu.  Click the video still below to be directed to the actual video. Universal France wouldn't let me embed it.  Oh and check out the newly released video for a song called "Leila," also taken off of Bleu Noir. Not sure if this is the official next single or not but it's a beautiful track.

Hot Video Alert: Joe McElderry - Someone Wake Me Up

I have to be honest - the whole concept for the new Joe McElderry video confuses the hell out of me. What's with the movie clips if the song isn't appearing in the movie? Is this just the label being cheap? The video features clips from new movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader but "Someone Wake Me Up" doesn't actually appear in the film. Instead, the single's B-Side, "There's A Place For Us," (sung by Carrie Underwood for the U.S. release) will play during the film's end credits. So confusing! I guess "There's A Place For Us" won't be getting it's own video so the label decided to throw together some scenes from the film and put them in the video for Joe's second third single which isn't appearing on the film's soundtrack? Just seems a little lazy to me.

That all being said - let's discuss the song itself.  It's good. I really like Joe McElderry. I like his voice. I like his range. I like his courage and bravery in coming out of the closet. He's absolutely adorable. I just like him. While I think "Ambitions" was a catchier song, "Someone Wake Me Up" isn't that bad of a follow up. My biggest complaint is that the video is just a bit too distracting for me...more Joe less Narnia please...specifically more rain-soaked Joe if at all possible. Co-produced by Ray Hedges and Nigel Butler, "Someone Wake Me Up" is due for release in the UK on December 5th. Check out the movie trailer video clip below.

Hot Video Alert: Pixie Lott - Can't Make Me Over

BLAH it's another ballad, this time from Pixie Lott. "Can't Make This Over" is the second single released from her album re-release, Turn It Up Louder. The follow up to her Top 12 single "Broken Arrow," "Can't Make This Over" was co-penned by Eve Nelson and UK singer/songwriter Daniel Bedingfield. The video has Lott moving backwards through time as if she's rewinding the day after messing something up (not entirely sure what she wants to "make over"). While she "can't make this over" she's still playing the events of the day back in her mind. It's a clever little video but the song is just OK for me. It is nice to see Daniel Bedingfield back doing something, though I'd rather it be in a recording studio. For now this will have to do. "Can't Make This Over" is due out December 20th while Pixie's U.S. debut on Interscope Records is expected in the New Year.

Hot Video Alert: Cheryl Cole - The Flood

Despite the fact that her first album was a bit too Will.i.Am heavy, I have to say that I much prefer Cheryl Cole's 3 Words to her sophomore effort Messy Little Raindrops. At first listen, "Promise This" was just a cluster of noise (although it did grow on me) while follow up single, "The Flood" is just plain boring. The chorus is big and Cheryl's voice sounds good here but overall, the single isn't anything special.  It's just another boring, decently performed ballad.  Come on Cheryl! You're a judge on a reality series...pull out all of the stops and make an effort. I realize that she had a bit of a rough year but this album (despite the fact that it went #1) is just BLAH.  I feel like 3 Words just had more flow than this one.  I still like Cheryl Cole, I just had higher hopes. I'm inclined to agree with The Prophet on this one. Let's get Girls Aloud back together and stop all of this solo career nonsense! (Nadine - I'm talking to you as well!) "The Flood" was co-written by R&B singer and songwriter Priscilla Renea (of "Dollhouse" greatness) and Wayne Wilkins. "The Flood" will be out on January 3rd in the UK. Check out the perfectly pretty video below.

Frankmusik Previews New Single, Records Duet with Natalia Kills

I realize that I'm a little late with this one but better late than never. One of my FAVORITE UK imports, Frankmusik, is back with a new single and album and I cannot effing wait! The 25-year old Vincent Frank's (AKA Frankmusik) last record, Complete Me is one of my favorite albums of the last few years. Frankmusik is one of many new talents to be nabbed by Interscope Records imprint Cherrytree Records. Other recent Cherrytree additions include the fabulous Ellie Goulding and of course, the super fab Natalia Kills (check out my interview with her HERE), whom Frank has reportedly done a duet with for his record. Complete Me was just full of so many hits I don't know where it went wrong over in the UK. While the album did modestly well, peaking at #13 on the charts, the singles were not so successful. "Better Off As Two" peaked at #26 while follow up single "Confusion Girl" peaked at #27 while "Time Will Tell" only managed to crawl in at #173. An all acoustic re-release of the album followed later in 2009 but no more singles were released. Time to start work on new material!

"The Fear Inside" is the first evidence of new Frankmusik material and BOY was it worth the wait. "The Fear Inside" is the first single to be lifted off his sophomore record, Follow The Leader and it's brilliant in every way. While not too different from previous releases, it doesn't really need to be. With Cherrytree behind him and given the fact that he's virtually an unknown here in the States, pop music lovers everywhere are going to hear this track and they are going to love this track. Arjan (from ArjanWrites.com) describes the song PERFECTLY, praising it for it's "Massive chorus, instantly hooky bassline and a tight, top-of-the-line production."  He goes on to call it "Slick!" and "a fantastic introduction to all of the new Frankmusik hotness that is about to be unleashed upon the pop world."

Indeed. Look out for an accompanying video and U.S. tour coming soon.  Listen to the new song below (via ArjanWrites).

U.S. Version of X-Factor to Debut in Fall 2011

AHHH! Exciting news. Entertainment Weekly's Michael Slezak has posted the very first promo for the upcoming U.S. version of X-Factor, the popular UK music reality competition (SLASH American Idol's downfall) that has brought us such great artists as Leona Lewis, Alexandra Burke, Diana Vickers, Dolly Rockers, etc. While the promo (which you can see HERE) is short and sweet, my appetite is officially whetted. What about you? American Idol or X-Factor? Who do you want to joining Simon Cowell as a judge on X-Factor?

Hot Video Alert: Sander Kleinenberg feat. Jamie Cullum - Remember When

Talk about a match made in heaven, the new single from Dutch remixer, DJ and producer Sander Kleinenberg features the ever amazing jazz-pop singer Jamie Cullum! Absolutely brilliant. I like EVERYTHING about this song. The single was released off of Kleinenberg's latest European album, 5K on November 12th in the Netherlands and November 14th in the UK. The digital EP features remixes from Lifelike, Tapesh and Downtown Party Network. MUST GET MY HANDS ON THIS ASAP! No word yet on a U.S. release but hopefully there will be one. The beautiful video was directed by Alex Grazioli. Check it out below. I love it when unexpected musical partnerships happen and Jamie Cullum pairing up with a Dutch DJ is definitely unexpected...in a good way!

Hot Video Alert: Kylie Minogue - Better Than Today

Is "Better Than Today" my favorite song off of Kylie's Aphrodite album? No. Does that mean I don't enjoy the music video? Of course not! What's not to like? The video's got bright disco lights, pink boas, sparkly stilettos and a little Rocky Horror homage going on. The clip Kylie Minogue/William Baker co-directed clip made it's YouTube/VEVO debut on November 19th. The single, the third off of Aphrodite, will be released in the UK on December 6th and features official remixes from Bills & Hurr, The Japanese Popstars, and Monarchy. The single was written and produced by Nerina Pallot, Andy Chatterly and Stuart Price.

Sidenote: in advance of her featured performance on next week's Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at New York's Rockefeller Plaza, Minogue made a special appearance at this morning's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, singing single #2, "Get Out Of My Way." Catch a clip of the performance HERE. Minogue will be performing her new holiday single, "Let It Snow" at the famous Rockefeller Plaza on November 30th, the day after she premieres it on Perez Hilton. The single will be digitally released on December 7th. It's always such a treat to see Kylie on American TV. Looking forward to the announcement about her planned U.S. tour.  Now...go enjoy the "Better Than Today" video!

From Baseball to...Bellevoxx?

I'm all about a pop group with an interesting story and new girl group Bellevoxx DEFINITELY has an interesting story.  The girls are the first act signed to W2W Records, a Las Vegas-based label created Chicago White Sox MVP Frank Thomas. Hold up...a former baseball player started a record label? OK. I'm intrigued.   Tell me more!

Bellevoxx (which means "beautiful voice") is Raquel Houghton (formerly of the girl group Valli Girls), Harmony Shay Moniz and Denisse Lara - three gorgeous girls who combine sweet harmonies with sex appeal, not unlike UK pop trio Atomic Kitten.  Their debut single, "Looking For Love" bowed on iTunes last month. Big things to come from these girls.  "Looking For Love" is the first single from their forthcoming debut album, due out soon.  Check out the music video below.

Hot Video Alert: Ellie Goulding - Your Song

As far as I'm concerned Ellie Goulding could have released EVERY one of the 10 tracks off her debut album as a single (it's THAT brilliant of an album) so when I learned that she was re-releasing the album in an expanded form I was a bit disappointed. Scrapping plans to release "Lights" as the 5th single, I was HOPING for "This Love (Will Be Your Downfall)" but instead it's one of the NEW tracks to be lifted from Bright Lights (November 29th). Rumors started swirling around about a song called "Human" being released as single #5 but it appears that the label (and/or Ellie herself?) has settled on a cover of Elton John's 1970 classic "Your Song."

Goulding ditches her trademark synth-pop sounds and just sings it the way the song should be sung - with a piano, some strings and her uniquely beautiful vocal delivery. I love that combination of vulnerability and strength that comes across in her singing. Simply beautiful. The video (below) is mega low budget but it works for the song. It's a montage of behind the scenes footage mixed with some scenes with Goulding singing the song.  Simple and understated, much like the song itself. A perfect complement.  "Your Song" was released on November 12th in the UK, where it entered the charts at #39. It's featured on the John Lewis Christmas 2010 advert and available to download now. Thanks to MuuMuse for the heads up on this one! Quite the gem.

Hot Video Alert: Charlotte Church - Logical World

GIRL! Control that vibrato! Don't get me wrong, Charlotte Church's first pop effort, 2005's underrated Tissues & Issues did it for me. Yes, the classically-trained pop star might have seemed a bit out of her element but at least she went for it. While sexy singles "Crazy Chick" and "Call My Name" cast aside any trace of her classical roots in an effort to make Church a contemporary pop star, they also cast aside her "Pie Jesu"-loving older fans. I don't blame Church for crossing over, wanting to broaden her appeal, I just wish that she'd kept the momentum going, rather than waiting 5 years to release a follow up.

"Logical World" is the second single off to be lifted off of Church's new album, Back To Scratch, which peaked on the UK album charts at #23. I have to say, I like it quite a bit better than the album's first single and title track. The song seems to work with Church's voice better than "Back To Scratch" although Church's overpowering vibrato does tend to get in the way here. The very pretty video features the doll-like Church dressed up in a variety of costumes, posing and making funny facial expressions, as is standard policy for any music video. Considering Church's first single has yet to chart, the chances of "Logical World" charting when it's released on November 22nd are slim to none but it really is a lovely song so I hope it does well. It's nice to have Church back singing music. I only wish the music were more my cup of tea.

Check out Charlotte Church on the web:

Hot Video Alert: Lykke Li - Get Some

Lykke Li is further proof that all things musically fabulous come out of Sweden. The new video for "Get Some" has Li looking all tribal and stuff, getting down and DIRRTY, grabbing herself and dancing around looking fierce while some eerie black and white video montage plays behind her. The atmospheric and gritty video was directed by Johan Söderberg who's done some video work for Madonna. Very cool stuff. "Get Some," which features a driving rhythmic drum beat throughout, is more ROCK than it is electronica, a style I think really suits the talented singer/songwriter. When paired up with the visually complementary kaleidoscopic visuals of the video, "Get Some" turns into a romping stomping good time. Download "Get Some" for free on Lykke Li's website OR buy it on iTunes with the B-Side "Paris Blue."

Check out Lykke Li on the web:

Hot Video Alert: Lee DeWyze - Sweet Serendipity

It's 'new music Tuesday' and what do we have? A new music video from American Idol Season 9-winner Lee DeWyze of course. The video actually premiered on VH1 yesterday but it's online today, the same day his debut album, Live It Up is released. The video is cute, featuring a snapshot in the day in the life of DeWyze and a pretty girl. The video has the girl running all around the city, following clues he's apparently left for him, all leading up to the inevitable meet-up, where the two (OF COURSE) walk away hand in hand.

While the video might be a tinsy bit cliche, my biggest complaint about the video is the blatantly obvious product placement shamelessly displayed throughout the clip. Cars with voice activated radios, fancy cell phones, etc. OVERKILL. It felt a bit like an American Idol Ford music video and not in a good way (if there is a good way). All of that aside, the song is STILL catchy and a big freakin' deal, considering DeWyze is the FIRST Idol winner to date to receive songwriting credit on a debut single. The David Glass-produced song has yet to make a dent on the Billboard Hot 100 but it has charted on both the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart (#37) and the Adult Pop Songs chart (#38). Lee DeWyze is a talented guy with a great voice so I wish him all of the success in the world. I just wish the video played a little bit less like a commercial.  Lee's debut album Live It Up is out now. Get yourself a copy.

Hot Video Alert - Wynter Gordon - Dirty Talk (NEW VIDEO)

Back when I first heard that singer/songwriter Wynter Gordon was RE-SHOOTING the video for her #1 Billboard Dance Club hit, "Dirty Talk" I thought - WHY?! After seeing the new video, I get it. The NEW video is the flashy, classy video that Wynter's hit single deserved in the first place. While I do find the original fairy tale interpretation of the Armen Djerrahian-directed clip CHARMING, the new video (directed by Sarah Chatfield) is a sleek, chic step up for sure. Featuring the Jupiter Ace-produced "Dirty Talk" + 5 other tracks, Wynter's The First Dance EP is available to download NOW. Get it!

Mini Viva Fuel 'Break Up' Rumors, Move On With Solo Projects

"Oh but it's sad when a love affair dies...the decline into silence and doubt. Our passion was just too intense to survive...which means..." - Evita

*SIGH* Words cannot express how BUMMED I am about the RUMORED breakup of UK pop group Mini Viva, although the chorus from "Goodbye and Thank You" did a pretty good job. I'm devastated! While there's been no official announcement as of yet, if you hold stock in what's being said on the band's official Twitter and Facebook pages, the group is kaput. The group's most recent TWEET had this ominous message:

@miniviva: A statement will follow soon with the news of Mini Viva X

DUN DUN DUN. The end is near and I'm wiping away tears. The girls have also been active on their personal Twitter pages, eliminating the "Mini Viva" name from their handles and Tweeting at fans.  First Britt Love last week...

@miniviva: Hey I've changed my twitter name to @iambrittlove add me Xxx

Then Frankee Connolly chimed in yesterday...

@miniviva: Hey people come follow me on my personal profile @FrankeeOfficial xx

Frankee continued on her personal Twitter page:

@FrankeeOfficial: @JooeB16 I am currently working on my solo career x

On Mini Viva's Facebook page, Britt posted a status update:

"YO GUYS AND GIRLS, I HAVE A NEW PROJECT AND I WANTED YOU TO BE THE FIRST TO KNOW. ADD MY NEW BAND PAGE!...http://www.facebook.com/iambrittlove"

So while there is light at the end of the tunnel, the split is still a hard pill to swallow, ESPECIALLY after hearing unreleased snippets of songs from the album. I am left feeling encouraged after hearing a song Britt Love posted on her Facebook page.  "Playing The Game" sounds VERY promising!  Like Mini Viva...only solo.  Very fresh and modern.  Sounds like the girls are doing what they need to do to survive in this cutthroat industry and if it means going solo then go for it girls.

Mini Viva formed in 2008 at the hands of by UK songwriting/production outfit, Xenomania. Due to release their debut album in 2010, the duo released their debut single, "Left My Heart In Tokyo" back in September of 2009. Produced by Xenomania, the song was a success, both critically AND on the charts, peaking at #7 in the UK. The duo's two follow up singles, however, failed to find their predecessor's success on the charts.  "I Wish"  only managed to peak at #73 on the charts while third single, "One Touch" fell shy of the Top 100, landing at #114. Not a good sign of things to come. To make matters worse the band was reportedly dropped by Geffen back in September. So...at the very least Mini Viva is label-less. Not a good position to be in for an act with only one Top Ten Hit to their credit.

So...while fans wait with baited breath to hear the inevitable BAD news, let's remember the good times.  Check out the video for "Left My Heart In Tokyo" below.

Watch out for an official statement from the girls soon.  I wish both Frankee and Britt lots of luck and love in their solo endeavors.  I'm sure we'll be seeing them again soon.

**UPDATE** It's official.  The girls posted the news on Facebook this afternoon. Sad story but I'll DEFINITELY follow Frankee and Britt along in their respective solo careers.  Here's the message:
Hey everyone!
First off all we would like to apologise for not being able to tell you sooner what was going on with Mini Viva.
It was something we had to decide for ourselves first and of course it was a big decision.
Both of us felt like the time was up for Mini Viva. We had tried so much and so had everyone who was su...pporting us.
But sometimes things just don't work out the way you would like them to. We would just like to take this time to thank every single one of you for supporting us on our journey! We could not have asked for more loyal fans than you guys!We both had the most amazing time as Mini Viva, we travelled to amazing places and met some wonderful people.
We will cherish the memories forever.
We would love you to keep supporting us along our different paths. You guys and girls have been so incredibly supportive, everything we did as apart of Mini Viva we are incredibly proud of!
Thank you so much we hope you will stay in touch and support us both like you did with Mini Viva, this is far from a goodbye this is just the beginning! :-) X

Hot Video Alert: Erika Jayne - One Hot Pleasure

Sometimes a song just GRABS you by the balls and pulls you out onto the dancefloor. That song for me right now is Erika Jayne's "One Hot Pleasure." One part Ke$ha with a little dash of Kylie Minogue, "One Hot Pleasure" further solidifies Jayne's position as American's new queen of the dance club.

Prior to watching the Mikey Minden/Mike Ruiz directed video, I had only heard of a tiny SNIPPET of Jayne's forthcoming fifth single so this was really the first time hearing the song in full. Well, dance music fans? It's well worth the wait. Not only does Jayne look hotter and fiercer than ever in this steamy video but the song is a sexy club-stomper even without the visual aid. Now grab your disco balls and get ready to dance!

The song was written by American DJ/producer/remixer Dave Audé, UK singer/songwriter Luciana Caporaso (of the radio hit “I Like That” by Richard Vission & The Static Revenger starring Luciana) and Nick Clow. Due out digitally on November 16th on Jayne's own label, Pretty Mess Records, the single is backed by an IMPRESSIVE remix package with mixes by Audé, Ralphi Rosario, Dirty Loud, Sultan & Ned and Mr. White.

Mark my words..."One Hot Pleasure" is going to be Erika Jayne's fifth consecutive number one dance single.
