Hot Video Alert: Esmée Denters feat. Justin Timberlake - Love Dealer

It's the third official single and first international single for Esmée Denters. I love this song, although it does make me miss Justin Timberlake's musical presence on the airwaves. The video isn't anything spectacular but Timberlake and Denters both look and sound great. Hope this impacts the charts. "Outta Here" is still one of my favorite Denters tracks.

Hot Video Alert: Alexandra Burke feat. Pitbull - All Night Long

LOVING this new Alexandra Burke video. The hand-held camera action might make some people a little ill, but it's a fun video for a fun song. LOVE this girl. Hope she releases this as the first single in the U.S.

'Pretty Mess,' Erika Jayne Aims for the Top of the Dance Charts with New Single

I adore Erika Jayne. She's beautiful, talented and knows what her target audience is looking for - a real, honest-to-God dance floor filler. Let me tell you...4th single "Pretty Mess" certainly delivers. I think the new single has what it takes to take Jayne straight to the top of the Billboard Dance/Club Play Chart for a 4th consecutive time (following #1 singles "Roller Coaster," "Stars" and "Give You Everything").

Erika Jayne

At first when I saw Erika Jayne's "Pretty Mess" listed under the new releases on iTunes, I dismissed it. I thought it was an album re-release or something like that. I had given up hope of a follow up single to "Give You Everything" (which came out last May). Even the album (also called Pretty Mess) was released last summer. This is quite a long span of time in between singles. As it turned out, it was worth the wait. On the remix, we have the incomparable Tracy Young, Dave Audé, Larry Tee, DJ Escape/Johnny Vicious, Klubjumpers, Bill Hamel, Peter Rafelson, and Marshall Stack. That's quite the impressive lineup if you ask me!

While the single isn't officially set for release until April 27th, you can pick up 3 Remix EPs on iTunes now including one for the club mixes, one for the edits and one for the dubs. "Pretty Mess," the album's title track was written by Jayne and Peter Rafelson and features a hot video to boot (see below). The video is actually cut to the Dave Audé remix and features a sexier than ever Jayne prancing around a dance club. The video was directed by Mikey Minden (whom I remember and love from both seasons of 'Search For The Next Doll' on the CW) and Mike Ruiz. Get ready to tear up the dance floor with the new single from Erika Jayne. It's a hot one!

Pretty Mess Tracklisting:

1. Dave Aude Club 6:20
2. DJ Escape & Johnny Vicious Main Mix 9:23
3. Tracy Young Club 10:02
4. Bill Hamel Remix 5:17
5. KlubJumpers Extended Remix 6:12
6. Larry Tee & Per QX Mix 6:10
7. Marshall Stack Remix 4:32
8. Rafelson Electro Club 6:24
9. Dave Aude Video Edit 3:32

Daniel Merriweather Unleashes His Golden Pipes on America

OH what I wouldn't give to hear Aussie singer/songwriter Daniel Merriweather's golden pipes live at the House of Blues in Boston on April 30th. Daily Variety called him a star and I have no doubt about that. I've been in love with this guy's voice since I heard his guest vocals on Mark Ronson's "Stop Me," and have been following his various featured vocals on other tracks since. When I learned Merriweather was doing a solo record, OF COURSE I got excited.

Like all good music these days, Merriweather first released the album in the UK (June 1, 2009), where it managed to chart in the #2 spot - followed eight months later by it's U.S. release on February 23rd. First single, "Change" peaked at #8 on the charts, while second single "Red" fared better, peaking at #5. Further singles did not do so well, with "Impossible" peaking at #67 and "Water and a Flame" featuring British soul singer Adele failed to chart altogether. I'm a firm believer that an artist's overall success should not be determined chart success. Merriweather is a talented lad and he deserves success and recognition...in the U.S. too and from the looks of things, he's well on his way.

Merriweather recently performed on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Last Call with Carson Daly. What's more - Dan Merriweather is VH1's "You Oughta Know" featured artist! Quite a plug, if you ask me. What I love about Merriweather is the raw quality of his vocals. The guy can sing, no doubt, but it's a little rough around the edges. The raspy quality to his voice just OOZES sexuality and soul and spills out wherever you hear his music played.

As if all of these high profile U.S. television performances weren't enough, Merriweather is currently on tour with British R&B singer Corinne Bailey Rae, who's launching her own comeback of sorts, after a 4 year hiatus. The North American tour kicked off on April 9th in Vancouver and takes the talented duo to 15 cities throughout the United States and Canada. Next Friday, on April 30th Merriweather will be hitting the stage at the House of Blues in Boston. *DROOL* Now I did consider buying tickets earlier but just never got around to it. Now, of course, I'm kicking myself.
Love & War

If you haven't picked up a copy of the album, Love & War yet, what are you waiting for? It's brilliant! While his ballads are beautiful, I'm more a fan of up-tempo fare like "Change," featuring Wale. That being sad, "Red" is GORGEOUS, and I love his duet with Adele on "Water and The Flame." Love & War was produced by Mark Ronson (of course) and takes inspiration from a variety of diverse artists.
“I’m as inspired by Q-Tip and A Tribe Called Quest as I am by Vivaldi, Stevie Wonder, Jeff Buckley, or D’Angelo. There are artists who are archivists—they make music directly derived from music they love. I make music by subconsciously blending things I’ve heard throughout my life.”
The album is a little bit retro, which really suits the raw quality of his vocals. The album also features GORGEOUS instrumentation and orchestral arrangements throughout, which only complement the singer's pipes. If you aren't familiar with Dan Merriweather yet, get ready to be blown away.

If you get a chance, check out Dan on tour with Corinne Bailey Rae:

4/24 - Detroit, MI - St. Andrews Hall
4/26 - Toronto, ON - Queen Elizabeth Theatre
4/28 - Montreal, QC - Club Soda
4/30 - Boston, MA - House Of Blues
5/1 - Philadelphia, PA - TLA
5/3 - New York, NY - Webster Hall
5/4 - Brooklyn, NY - Music Hall of Williamsburg
5/11 - Atlanta, GA - Center Stage
5/13 - Washington, DC - 9:30 Club
5/14 - Baltimore, MD - Rams Head Live

A NOT-SO-QUICK QUICKY Album Art Update

It's super late so I have time for one more QUICKY. With so much STUNNING album artwork out there, I just had to post some of my favorites. Oh and speaking of beautiful album artwork, DEFINITELY check out my last post on Ms. Katie Melua as well as my posts on Sarah McLachlan, Jewel and Cyndi Lauper - all of whom have new albums/singles coming out with some beautiful artwork. The artwork for this new album/single are beyond gorgeous. Thanks to Coverlandia and MuuMuse for the artwork. Oh - I should also mention that release dates listed below are mostly for UK.

Sia - "Clap Your Hands" (Single/Out Now on iTunes)
Check out the video for Sia's new single, "Clap Your Hands." How fun is this? Such a creative, cooky artist. I absolutely ADORE her. Check out fun remixes by Fred Falke and Diplo.
Robyn - Body Talk Part I (Album/June 7th)
Thanks to Bradley over on MuuMuse for posting this. I love this artwork. I love Robyn even more. Body Talk Part I is one of my most hotly anticipated summer records. Robyn's released three songs on iTunes to tie us over. Check out "Fembot," "Dancehall Queen" and "None of Dem" on iTunes (in the U.S.).
Robin Thicke w/ Estelle - "Rollacoasta" (Single/Out Now)

While the artwork might not be anything special, there's a big honkin' photo of Robin Thicke. Enough said? Oh...and R&B superstar Estelle makes an appearance. Check out the video. I am loving this song more and more.
Macy Gray - The Sellout (Album/June 28th)
Macy Gray is back and better than ever! In looking through my CD collection, I have more Macy Gray CDs then I remember purchasing. As quirky as she is, she's talented. I am very excited about the new record and while "Beauty In The World", the first single off of The Sellout is still growing on me, the Cutmore remix of the track already has me sold.
Kylie Minogue - Aphrodite (Album/July 5th)
*DIES* After having seen Kylie Minogue on her first ever North American tour, I am STILL riding that high and don't plan on stopping any time soon. Lucky for me (and Kylie fans everywhere) the wait for new material won't be much longer. New Kish Mauve-produced single "All The Lovers" will be released on June 28th, followed by the album Aphrodite on July 5th. *DIES*

Kelis - Flesh Tone (Album/May 17th)
I already blogged about the stunning music video for the new Kelis single, "Acapella" and now we have the official album artwork. It's a little bit gaudy for my tastes but I still kind of love it. I cannot WAIT for this album. I haven't been this excited about a Kelis album since Tasty. Lookout for the Kelis-assisted Benny Benassi collaboration, "Spaceship," the video for which has already been shot.
Kate Nash - My Best Friend Is You (Album/Out Now)
While this artwork is CUTE, it's not really blog-worthy by itself. I just wanted to include it b/c I'm going to see Kate Nash live next week at Great Scott in Allston, MA (outside of Boston). Small, intimate gig - the same place I saw V.V. Brown actually (WHICH I still need to post about - oops!). I'm beyond excited. The new album came out this week and I am still warming up to it. There's so much to love about her first album, but I'm sure that in time I'll love the new one as well. If the streaming concert I listened to today (live from Cologne) is any indication, her live set is going to be AWESOME! Check out the video for her new single "Do-Wah-Doo."
Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid (Album/May 17th)
Janelle Monáe is a talented young lady. I remember when her first EP came out a while back with the song "Many Moons" - I loved her look and voice and now...FINALLY she's back with a full length album (due out May 17th in the UK and the following day in the U.S.). This is going to be a hot album...which by the way is sort of reminiscent of Kelis' new artwork. It's also channeling the movie poster for 20s silent film Metropolis. Very cool. Watch the video for new single feat. Big Boi (of OutKast fame) called "Tightrope."

Diana Vickers - Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree (Album/May 3rd)

Former X-Factor contestant Diana Vickers' debut album drops on May 3rd and features lead single "Once" (which has glorious remixes from Manhattan Clique). Having heard part of a leaked album sampler, I'm very excited for Songs From The Tainted Cherry Tree. Vickers is a talent, and while her sound is similar to that of Little Boots and Ellie Goulding, I think her talent stands on it's own. I'm interested to see what the finished product sounds like. Check out the video to her single "Once."

Katie Melua Releases STUNNING Video for 'The Flood'

Big thanks to Jared over at the 'Pop In Stereo' blog for the single artwork
Yikes. I know I'm late with posting about this but who cares! This video should be posted OVER and OVER again. It's called "The Flood" and it's Katie Melua's upcoming new single (released May 17th) off of her fourth album, The House, due out May 24th in the UK and August 3rd in the U.S. It's visually stunning, just as the song is sonically stunning. Half naked dancing men, Katie in a stunning black contour dress...a mechanical bull-like piano...there's just so much to look at! This song gives us a taste of what we can expect from Melua's William Orbit-produced new album. I for one am salivating in anticipation. Eew. There's a puddle.

Oh, and even though I posted about the album preview before, have a listen again. It's got some great "Behind The Scenes" footage of Katie at work on the album and filming the video for "The Flood." Oh and remember to be on the lookout for remixes by Danny Kirsch. (Danny Kirsch...if you find this post...I'd love to hear your mixes)

Tracklisting:

1. I’d Love To Kill You
2. The Flood
3. A Happy Place
4. A Moment Of Madness
5. Red Balloons
6. Tiny Alien
7. No Fear Of Heights
8. The One I Love Is Gone
9. Plague Of Love
10. God On The Drums Devil On The Bass
11. Twisted
12. The House

Jewel Talks About Her 'Up Tempo' New Album

From the looks of Jewel's new album cover for Sweet and Wild, this is going to be a fun ride! Jewel looks STUNNING (per usual) all dolled up. A little bit country, a little bit rock and roll if you ask me. PERFECT!

Due on June 8th via Valory Music Co., Sweet and Wild will be Jewel's 7th studio album (of original material - 9th studio album overall), the album earned it's title because, according to Jewel on her blog - Sweet and Wild showcases both sides of her personality.
Jewel
"I seem to be a walking contradiction in life," she says. I am a fairly calm person who reads a lot and writes poetry, but I also like to ride motorcycles and shoot guns."
What kind of sound can we expect to hear on Sweet and Wild? Sounds like Jewel is mixing it up this time around, including both the soft sounds of Spirit with the rock & roll sounds of This Way. Sounds like magic to me.
"I love rock songs that are up tempo, and I love introspective songs that are lyrical. Usually I make albums that are one or the other - Spirit is very soothing, This Way is up tempo and rocking.... Well, on this one, I decided not to choose, but just go ahead and be both. The trick to making diverse material fit on one album, is getting the sequence right."
Sounds like we can expect a little country, a little rock, a little pop and a little pop. Jewel maintains that the focus remains on the lyric and the melody as well the perspective and viewpoint that she writes from.
"This album has some very country songs, it has some straight up rock songs, it has songs that lean pop, and some that go back to my folksy roots. But it was all produced through the lens of the country format, so each is colored and warmed up by great instruments like mandolin and fiddle and some of the best players in the world who were kind enough to join me on the album."

Woohoo! In the end, Jewel calls Sweet and Wild an "up tempo album" and I for one will be buying it on June 8th. Oh - and what's more? Jewel says she'll be releasing a special double CD called Sweet and Mild which includes the standard album as well as an acoustic version of the album. No word on whether or not this will come out at the same time as the regular release, but I would assume so. Check out the album artwork above and the tracklisting below:

1. No Good In Goodbye
2. I Love You Forever
3. Fading
4. What You Are
5. As Bad As It Gets
6. Summer Home In Your Arms
7. Stay Here Forever
8. No More Heartaches
9. One True Thing
10. Ten
11. Satisfied

For more insight into each track, the theme of the album and Jewel's thoughts on the recording process, check out her official blog. Check out Jewel on tour this June.

Dido Has 'Everything To Lose' with 'Sex and The City 2' Soundtrack

Dido fans rejoice! A new song entitled "Everything To Lose" will be featured in the new movie, Sex and The City 2 and will also be featured on the Sex and The City 2 official soundtrack, due for release on May 25th via WaterTower Music (distributed by Alternative Distribution License/Warner Music Group). Dido went ahead and answered some questions about the new song over on her official website. Check it out below:

Did you write Everything To Lose specifically for the movie?
A rough demo of 'everything to lose' was on a cd I gave to someone with a few demos of songs from the new album. The people doing the film heard it and loved it and so we had to suddenly finish it up in a couple of days last week to get it into the film in time. It's so exciting for me that people will be hearing it this quickly after I've done it and when it's still so fresh for me.

When/where did you record it?
Rollo, Sister Bliss and I all did our bits at home. I recorded my parts in the kitchen. It's a very easy and fun way to work and is how I've been making my new record so far. It challenges me more when I've only got myself to rely on when I'm recording on my own and I've been able to really go with my own instincts and experiment before anyone hears anything. I finished it off with my brother in the English countryside (hoping not too much bird and cow noise on there!).

Are you pleased with it?
I really am. It's a song that puts us all in a good mood. It's a true love song really, even though it's talking about that fear you can get when you actually really love someone and have finally got something real to lose. I love the sound of it and I've been having so much fun with working with Rollo and Sister Bliss on this album so far. I'm enjoying getting back to my electronic roots so much. Very happy! Hope you all like it too.

Make sure you keep checking Dido's official site for information on the song's premiere sometime in the next few days. While I really did love Dido's single "Don't Believe In Love," the album, Safe Trip Home didn't do it for me. I don't know. Maybe it was the more "organic" approach that she took during the recording/production phases of the album's creation. According to Dido, the new album will return to her electronic roots which leaves me optimistic. In my eyes, there's always room for Dido. I look forward to the new album and song.

Sarah McLachlan Announces New Single, Album Release Date

Canadian singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan unveiled her new single today on her official website and I love it! Due out on May 4th, "Loving You Is Easy" is the first single off her new album, (check it out on SarahMcLachlan.com) The Laws Of Illusion, due out via Arista Records on June 15th. So nice to have Sarah back! "One Dream" was...fine. It was the theme for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics so it was dramatic, a little cheesy, etc. THIS is a proper single.

Sarah McLachlan is quite a talent and I've been aching for new material since her 2006 holiday album, Wintersongs. I'm loving the single artwork too by the way. Nice sepia tone photo with some overlaid color spots. Very cool. While the color scheme reads a bit too autumnal for my tastes, especially considering that it's going to be a summer album - it's classic and classy, just like McLachlan. The album was produced by Pierre Marchand. You can catch McLachlan this summer on tour with the ladies of the 2010 Lilith Fair.

Again, learn more about the single on her official site and listen to it below.

Cyndi Lauper Unveils Album Artwork For 'Memphis Blues'

Hey guys. Long delay again. I'm sorry. Had a bit of a "breakdown" re: blogging. Wasn't sure I wanted to come back to it. I just don't know how many people actually READ my blog...but in the end, I'm writing about the music and artists I love so here we go again.

Tracklisting:

1. Just Your Fool
2. Shattered Dreams
3. Early In The Mornin (Feat. Allen Toussaint and B.B. King)
4. Romance In The Dark
5. How Blue Can You Get? (Feat. Jonny Lang)
6. Down Don’t Bother Me (Feat. Charlie Musselwhite)
7. Don’t Cry No More
8. Rollin and Tumblin
9. Down So Low
10. Mother Earth (Feat. Allen Toussaint)
11. Crossroads (Feat. Jonny Lang)

Over on the Pop In Stereo blog (formerly Music Fascination) you can see the new Cyndi Lauper album artwork, for her forthcoming release - Memphis Blues, due out on June 22nd. This album will be Lauper's eleventh studio album and first with Downtown Records (Miike Snow, Diplo, Mos Def, Kid Sister), which is distributed by Universal and Atlantic Records.

While I think Lauper has a fabulous voice and will sound fabulous singin' the blues, I REALLY loved her last album, 2008's Bring Ya To The Brink. Oh well. The party can't last forever. I just hope that we get some club remixes! While we're waiting for the new album we have Cyndi on this season of the Celebrity Apprentice. She comes across as a wack-a-doo but SO entertaining and passionate about her GLBT charity, The True Colors Fund. Tune in if you get a chance.
