Hot Video Alert: Marina and The Diamonds - Oh No!

Check out the video for the new Marina and The Diamonds single "Oh No!," which premiered earlier today. The video is a lot of fun, with it's comic strip-styling, bright colors, cheesy dance routine, funny little speech bubbles, etc. Very cute. I really am loving this song. I tend to think of Marina and the Diamonds as an "anti-pop star," meaning she doesn't really sound like anything else out there in the over-crowded pop market. She has her own style and thinks outside of the box and that definitely shows through in her videos as well as her music. This video sees Marina playing a different role...more of a contradiction to herself. I guess that's the point of the song, really. It's still interesting to watch the video and see her acting more like a pop star than she has before. While I love the original version of the song, the Max Sanna and Steve Pitron remix takes things to the next level. Produced by Greg Kurstin, the single is due out July 26th in the UK. The video was directed by Kinga Burza.

It's The Way

It's The Way was a left-over track from Ashley Tisdale's Headstrong album. When the track was not used, it was given to the band, A-List. Now, thanks to the producer of the track, we have Ashley's demo version!

Hot Video Alert: Fefe Dobson - Ghost

It's finally here! The video for Fefe Dobson's new electro-smash single "Ghost." Penned by Dobson, Kara DioGuardi and Kevin Rudolf the song is a pretty drastic departure from what she's produced in the past in that it's decidedly a dance single. Dobson's previous singles have all been more pop/rock...a little bit harder and edgier, but pop/rock nonetheless. I think the new sound works and works well at that. Dobson's "ROCKER" edge isn't lost in the synthy production, in fact, it complements her vocals and performance. While I highly doubt her whole album is as experimental, I hope that Dobson will at least consider dabbling in electronica again some time. It suits her well.  According to Dobson via Twitter, the single will be available in the U.S. sometime next week.  Her new album, Joy, is due out on August 17th.

Hot Video Alert: Lady Antebellum - Our Kind Of Love

And RIGHT when I was on a blogging-roll, my internet at home goes ahead and craps out. So here's a QUICK post during my lunch break. Check out the video for the third Lady Antebellum single, "Our Kind Of Love." I admittedly started liking Lady Antebellum after I heard the club remixes done for second single "Need You Now," but in listening to this single and watching this fun and fancy free video I'm liking them more and more.  The new single (their third off the new album, Need You Now) reached #80 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and hit the Top 20 on the country charts. Thanks Prophet for doing the chart research :-)

International Singing Sensation Charice Lands Role on 'Glee'

If I wasn't blogging about music already, I'd be blogging about television.  It's no wonder I love Fox's Glee so much...I mean HELLO!  Music and TV together?! It's an obvious match made in heaven.

From GleeImages.com
Why do I love Glee? Is it the sappy storylines? Well...yes...partially.  Is it the cast? Oh, absolutely! What about the music? Um...DUH!  While the storylines are cute, EVERYBODY tunes in weekly for the spectacular music numbers, that put any REAL high school show choir to shame (I'm sure Fox has a bigger budget than your average public high school).  Not only are people TUNING in to Glee but people are spending money on the music! Digital downloads and albums are both bringing BOATLOADS of $$.  Case in point? Check out this weeks Billboard Charts! The newest Glee EP, Journey To Regionals took the #1 spot on the Billboard 200  (besting even Christina Aguilera's new album) and Volume 3 of the Soundtrack is still in the top ten, after peaking at #1.  Volume's 1, 2 and the Power of Madonna are also still charting.  Singles-wise, on the Hot 100 Singles Chart, seven Glee Cast recordings are featured in the Top 100 (the most recent being Glee's take on Journey's "Faithfully" which debuted at #37).  Not only are NEW Glee songs charting but old ones are RE-charting. The Glee Cast's internationally successful cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'"re-entered the Hot 100 at #59, after having peaked at #4.  Glee's got CHART power.

From GleeImages.com
While we have an ENTIRE summer to go before Glee returns in the Fall, at least we have something to look for.  Entertainment Weekly's own TV Guru, Michael Ausiello reported today that popular Warner Brothers Recording Artist, Charice will be joining the cast next season as a "foreign exchange student whose killer vocals get Rachel (Lea Michele) contemplating murder." BRILLIANT move...for both Charice's career AND for the show. Giving Rachel some proper vocal competiion can ONLY be a good thing, and while I fear this will mean lots more of Rachel Berry pouting and threatening to quit the club, I'm anticipating some KILLER duets.

L-R - Charice, Glee's Lea Michele
Charice, who hails from the Phillipines has been paraded around the U.S., garnering support from the likes of David Foster and Oprah, to name a couple.  Her self-titled Reprise Records release marks Charice's international debut.  Her first single, the Diane Warren-penned/David Foster-produced "Note To God," (also heard on JoJo's The High Road album and on Charice's Oprah appearance) peaked at #44 on Billboard's Hot 100.  Second single, the Iyaz-assisted "Pyramid" peaked at #56 but made it all the way to #1 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Club Songs with the help of remixes by Barry Harris, Jonathan Peters, Dave Audé and Ruff Loaderz.

While Glee doesn't seem to need any help at the moment, the addition of Charice is only going to enhance the musical element of the show.  Fall can't get here soon enough!

Hot Video Alert: Janelle Monae - Smile (Live on Billboard.com's 'MashUp Mondays')

One of my FAVORITE artists right now, Janelle Monae dazzles us with her powerful pipes, singing her rendition of a Charlie Chaplin classic, "Smile" taken from Chaplin's film Modern Times. Monae truly shows us just how talented she is with her flawless vocals, complemented by her vintage styling. Just PERFECT. Check out a behind the scenes slideshow of Monae recording the track on the fabulous new MashUp Mondays Column on Billboard.com.

UK Singer/Songwriter Bradley Say Gearing Up To Release 'Seeing Red'

Way back in August of 2009 I mentioned this hot new British singer/songwriter named Bradley Say (I think I first learned about him on either ElectroQueer or ArjanWrites) and something about him really struck a chord with me.  Maybe it had something to do with how cute he is, but besides all of that superficial stuff, the guy's really talented!  Case in point - check out this fun new track called "You Can't Keep Up." Off his forthcoming debut album, Seeing Red, the track was produced by Laurence Hobbs (who's worked with one of my favs, Pixie Lott) and is a fun "electro/pop anthem," according to Say.  I quite agree.  Back in April, Say said he was considering shooting a video for the song and promoting it as his next single (the follow up to "Say What?" and "Wasted") but no news just yet.  Say is keeping busy, writing new material for an all new album. Hopefully we hear more from this talented Brit soon. I'm on pins and needles!  Take a listen to "You Can't Keep Up" below!  U.S. fans can download his single "Wasted" on iTunes now.

Oh! And check out the video for "Say What?" while you're at it.

Hot Video Alert: Selena Gomez and The Scene - Round & Round

Check out this fun video for Disney-darling Selena Gomez and The Scene's new single "Round & Round." "Round & Round" is the first single off of Gomez's new album (which as of now remains untitled). The video is fun, showing Gomez playing a sexy spy. Having liked her last single, "Naturally," I was expecting something similar with the new single and I got it. "Naturally" received some unexpectedly good remixes so here's hoping her label continues with that trend and gives "Round & Round" some fun remixes as well.

Hot Video Alert: Kelly Rowland and David Guetta - Commander

Finally! The official version of the new Kelly Rowland "Commander" (produced by David Guetta) video is here and it's HOT. While the song had been doing OK overseas, it has yet to really impact the charts here in America. In the U.S. the song peaked at #2 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Club Play chart, while in the UK the tune rose from #52 to #17 on the singles chart. Not too shabby Ms. Rowland! A rough cut of the video leaked a few weeks back, but the quality was pretty poor so it's nice to see it all polished and clean. I love this song. While rumors of a Nelly remix of "Commander" have yet to become a reality, Rowland will be releasing two non-dance singles here in the U.S. - the Stargate-produced/Ne-Yo-penned "Grown Woman" and "Rose Colored Glasses," which was produced by Dr. Luke. I'll take all the Kelly Rowland I can get my hands on so keep churning out those singles, girl.

Jada, Boston's Own Pop Group Makes Time for 'The Jimmy Fund'

I've been eagerly awaiting new material from the Boston-based pop/R&B girl group Jada, and so far no news.  Their last single "Breakup Song" (written and produced by Andrew Frampton, JuN!oR Da K!d, Wayne Wilkins and Savan Kotecha) was released digitally in September of 2009, following the release of their debut single, the RedOne-produced, Akon-written "American Cowboy."  Between then and now the girls have been working on their yet-to-be-released debut album as well as making a series of public appearances, mostly in their native Boston (including singing at a Celtics game during the exciting 2010 playoffs.)

Signed to Motown/Universal Records, Jada has clocked studio time with many talents including J. R. Rotem, Dallas Austin, Swizz Beats, RedOne, Akon, Ryan Tedder, Toby Gad and Wyclef Jean among others.  The girls also stepped out on tour last year with The Plain White T's, Lloyd and Brooke Hogan, not to mention being featured on the soundtrack to Bring It On: In It To Win It. Hopefully we get some new Jada material before the year is over. I think these girls are talented and beautiful and if they keep putting out slick tracks like "American Cowboy" (check out the video below) they really could make an impact.  We just need to keep the momentum going and not wait so long between singles.

Check out promotional photos below (by Drea Catalano) of Jada's appearance at this summer's Scooper Bowl, the "nation's largest all-you-can-eat ice cream festival.  Proceeds for the event support The Jimmy Fund's fight against cancer at Dana Farber.

New Kelis Promotional Photos

Flesh Tone, the new album by the beautiful and talented Kelis, has already been released in the UK and other countries but we here in the U.S. must wait until July 6th. I have to admit, I'm a little nervous for Kelis. The album peaked at #46 in the UK and now is nowhere to be seen in the Top 100! The album saw it's highest chart position in Greece, where it peaked at #12. Why am I nervous? These numbers aren't that impressive. If I was sure if Kelis was going to do well ANYWHERE with her new electro sound, it would have been in Europe, where dance music is infinitely more popular than it is here in the States.

I guess my only consolation is that the singles are performing better with "Acapella" peaking at #1 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Club Play Chart and "4th Of July (Fireworks)" already hitting #39 in the UK dance singles chart. We'll just have to wait and see I guess. This doesn't bode well for Kelly Rowland's dance success here in the States. At least she has an urban remix with Nelly to fall back on.  Meanwhile, why don't you sit back and enjoy some new promotional photos of Kelis (many of which appear to be taken from the set of her "4th of July (Fireworks)" video).

Hot Video Alert: Robyn - Dancing On My Own/Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart (Live on Radio 1's Live Lounge)

Thanks to Arjan over on ArjanWrites.com for the heads up on this one. Robyn stopped by BBC's Radio 1 Live Lounge this past week and did acoustic version of her new single "Dancing On My Own," as well as a cover of Alicia Keys' "Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart." Both performances are heart-wrenchingly raw and beautiful. Hearing Robyn is really nothing if you haven't heard her perform live. For many pop/dance singers in today's market, flawless live vocals are unheard of. For Robyn, it's just a reality. Getting so pumped for next month's show at the House of Blues with Kelis. SO excited.

New Smokin' Brandon Flowers Promotional Photos

Island Records has released some new promotional photos for newly solo Brandon Flowers (of The Killers) and he looks GORGEOUS of course.  While the band is on hiatus, Flowers is flying solo and releasing an album, Flamingo, sometime this September. First single "Crossfire" is due out on June 21st.  His album features production from Stuart Price, Daniel Lanois and Brendon O'Brien. Listen to "Crossfire" HERE and feast your eyes on photos of Mr. Flowers below.

Hot Video Alert: Kelis - 4th Of July (Fireworks) (Live on The Jay Leno Show)

I stayed up extra late last night...fought through the exhaustion...to catch Kelis' appearance on Jay Leno and I'm glad I did. She delivered a nearly flawless performance of new single "4th Of July (Fireworks)", looking like a Goddess the whole time, dressed in a flowy blue dress, a matching hair accessory, fierce makeup and red hair. I like that Kelis is starting out in a higher key during her recent string of performances here. The album version of the track is a bit TOO low and while Kelis does have a beautiful range, sometimes her lower register doesn't sound so hot live. This performance is EXCELLENT. Perfect. Love. Getting SO excited to see her on tour with Robyn next month.

Hot Video Alert: LeAnn Rimes - Swingin'

LeAnn Rimes is back with a swingin' new single, "Swingin'" off her upcoming new album Lady and Gentleman (due out on Vinyl September 30th and on CD October 5th).  A cover of a 1983 John Anderson song, "Swingin'" is available on iTunes right now and was released to country radio stations on June 14th but was performed first on the 2010 CMT Music Awards.  The video, directed by David McClister is a fun number, featuring a beautiful Rimes performing during an all night Dance Marathon.  I like LeAnn Rimes in general. Of course, I tend to be more a fan of her "POP" (i.e. - Twisted Angel, Whatever We Wanna) sound but I respect her as a country singer. That's where she started after all. I also like that her label, Curb, still gets remixes because for one reason or another, LeAnn Rimes' voice is well suited for the club scene. I just spent an unfathomable amount of money buying ALL of her remixes on iTunes. I'm hoping "Swingin'" sees some remixes too.

Check out LeAnn Rimes on the web:

New Remixes from Kelis, Katy Perry, Enrique Iglesias, Eliza Doolittle, Marina and The Diamonds and Macy Gray!

You know how much I LURVE remixes. Here are some remixes I'm excited for this summer.

Kelis - 4th Of July (Fireworks)

"4th Of July (Fireworks)" is the second single off of Kelis' new album Flesh Tone, due out in the U.S. on July 6th. Produced by DJ Ammo, the single came out on June 8th and features a stunning video directed by John "Rankin" Waddell and Nicole Ehrlich. We're treated to remixes for this already dance-tastic new single from Calvin Harris, Fernando Garibay, Richard X, Rusko and Burns. A special remix EP will be available to download on June 29th.

Eliza Doolittle - Pack Up

British singer/songwriter Eliza Doolittle releases her second single "Pack Up" July 5th and it features a stunning remix package from Analog People In A Digital World, Riva Starr and Royal Palms. If you're not already familiar with Doolittle, check out her debut single "Skinny Genes" off her debut self-titled album due out June 28th via Parlophone. You can see the promo tracklisting below. Make sure you check out the video too!

Enrique Iglesias feat. Pitbull - I Like It

Who doesn't like a good Enrique Iglesias remix? "I Like It" is the second official single off of Enrique's new bilingual album Euphoria and features Pitbull in one of his standard guest vocals. While I'm REALLY amped for remixes to third single, "Heartbeat" featuring Nicole Scherzinger, I'm making do with the remixes available for "I Like It." We have Avicii, Cahill, Daddy's Groove and DJ Chuckie on the remix and...I like it. Check out the new U.S. video below featuring the cast of Jersey Shore.

Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg - California Gurls

YES! These are the remixes I've been waiting for! "California Gurls," the new Snoop Dogg-assisted Katy Perry single, her first off her upcoming new CD Teenage Dreams, has unofficial mixes floating around (notably mixes by Tommie Sunshine and Liam Keegan) but these official remixes are making me REALLY happy. On the mix we have Manhattan Clique, MSTRKRFT, Passion Pit and Inner Party System. The MSTRKRFT, Passion Pit and Inner Party System mixes are available to download now on Masterbeat. If you haven't scoped out the fun video yet do do HERE. Also make sure you watch a cool Tommie Sunshine video edit below.

Macy Gray - Lately

Ah Macy Gray. The singer who once said she was afraid clearing her throat would shut down her singing career. She's still here and she's back with a new single, the official second single off her upcoming new album The Sellout, due out June 22nd. First single "Beauty In The World" peaked at #2 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Club Play Chart (currently at #9) so I can only imagine that with remixes by Ruff Loaderz, Nu Addiction and Cutmore she'll reach new heights on the dance charts with her latest offering. Download the Cutmore and Nu Addiction remixes for "Lately" on Masterbeat.

Marina & The Diamonds - Oh No!

Marina & The Diamonds' album The Family Jewels is one of my favorites so far this year and it looks like it's doing alright here in the States, peaking at #2 on Billboard's Heatseekers Album Charts, #22 on Billboard's Digital Album Charts and #138 on the Billboard 200. The fourth UK single, "Oh No!" is due out on July 26th in the UK and is produced by Greg Kurstin. A video (yet to be released) was directed by Kinga Burza. We have remixes coming by Max Sanna and Steve Pitron, Grum and Jaymo and Andy George. Can't wait!
