That is very cool. I did not know such a thing existed.

    Why not?

I have lenses for both, But I do have numerous adaptors that let me use my entire lens collection on all my cameras.
So I do save money in that sense.

Yay sold the iPad tonight! So officially buying one tomorrow.

I'm going to try to go to Brea around 8:30. You think that is early enough?

Also, Brea my best bet or other stores have less people/more inventory?

It's amazing how people who hang out at a site dedicated to Apple don't really know anything about Apple R&D. This is so old news. But here for your edification:

    http://www.intel.com/technology/io/thunderbolt/index.htm

Take hard note of the sentence: "Developed by Intel (under the code name Light Peak), and brought to market with technical collaboration from Apple."

What's amazing is how you haven't provided a citation to match your earlier post :

TB was envisioned by Apple and then handed off to Intel for development and implementation.

So again, Citation needed. The citation provided does not indicate Apple envisionned TB, only that they collaborated with Intel on the project, which might or might not be after the fact that Intel envisionned the tech and not Apple.

Again, you state Apple basically came up with it, burden of proof lies on you for this. I don't think I've ever heard that about LightPeak until this thread. It always either was a joint venture or an Intel tech developed in collaboration with Apple.

I voted negative on this story. As I was hoping that Apple would concentrate on fixing the sticking scrollbars on the current Mighty Mouses, (or make it easier to open them and clean) before they just made it wireless.

Also, I'n not a big fan of using batteries in mice. Why not have a wireless mouse that is re-chargable? Or one that you can use wires with if the battery gets low?

well, is it possible that they have fixed the issues, we don't know, so don't make suppositions.

Second, if you don't like batteries, go out and buy some lithium-ion AA batteries, they are pretty cheap and work great.

Not sure if it has been said, but, changes for iChat - any chance of proper MSN support? I never got the jabber workaround to work reliably for long, but it would be sooo nice to be able to use the built-in app, just like when they finally did Exchange support in Mail. I can dream.

Your colleague either downloads porn/warez, or there is a potential hard drive physical failure (bad sectors on the disk), or he has crappy 3rd party drivers. Seriously, I've never seen the blue screen in XP and I've used XP since it came out on 3 computers plus work. These jokes on the XP blue screen are so misinformed that the laugh is on the joker. XP is very stable considering how much compatibility it has to provide for the infinite combinations of drivers, software and hardware.

Yet that doesn't change the fact that the BSOD still exists in XP.

A source? I'm sure we will find out all of the top secret information in a few minutes.

I meant a source for your ideas of how those involved in Al-Qaeda branded cells viewed Osama as invincible.

How could that be when it is well known the man has messed up kidneys and needed ongoing medical care as well as dialysis?

It sounded more to me like you think that is how members view him.

I just sold my previous 27" iMac and I'd like to order one of these new ones.

Can anyone tell me if I should get the 2GB GPU option considering I have an external 27" Cinema Display hooked up the iMac?

If not I'll spend it on extra RAM and a third-party SSD drive.

    Thanks

I think it's best if Vista is avoided altogether. The best way to avoid problems with Microsoft is not to give them any money and not to load any of their software on your computer.

At work here we just discovered that upgrading to Internet Exploder 7 causes two of our most important Internet based products to not work properly. They ever heard about backwards compatibility or testing at Microsoft? Just reinforces my reasoning for not sending Microsoft almost $300 to subject myself to their newest software fiasco. I think I'll do something more rewarding and pleasurable like jab a Bic pen into the palm of my hand.

while it would be nice to live in a world where everything Microsoft made could easily be avoided, its certainly not the best solution at all for some people and their jobs/careers/etc. If you need compatibility with Windows, then you need it to get things done. XP will be fine for the vast majority of people right now, but eventually people are going to want to upgrade to Vista for a variety of reasons, and knowing that you'll have to re-boot to run vista for the lower-level versions is an issue. Microsoft isn't the best company, but we live in a world where their products are used by so many people that it can't be avoided.

Does this picture depict the combination of old and new, restored and ruins or is it just a touristy picture with too much in it? You be my judges.

    Very true.

Apple sells cheap songs in hopes that you'll buy an iPod.

Amazon sells even cheaper songs... ???... profit?

??? = getting customers to Amazon.com where they will most likely buy some of the bazillion other things that Amazon sells. Same reason that brick & mortar stores use loss leaders (to drive traffic into their store).

sigh...Apple exports from China and imports to America. Just another reason not to buy AAPL.

Is this remark supposed to be taken seriously? I have no idea what you are driving at here.

OK, here is a historic example:

Again, when Apple says "delayed" I'll accept it as delayed. Until they do, they said "ships this summer", I'll stick to believing it "ships this summer". You can try to rationalize it not shipping this summer all you want, the official word still is it's coming this summer.

Overuse of the word summer right there.

The "view" buttons in finder changed back to the old style.

Thank god, I wasn't fond of the new style. I found it kinda confusing and out of place.

The mighty mouse is a great mouse. The only thing I dislike about it is the way the scroll wheel sticks. My wife doesn't like the squeeze buttons on the side, but I think they work great. I guess it's all a matter of preference. If they fix the scrolling wheel problem on the new one's I would definitely buy one. I've found though that cleaning the scroll wheel with rubbing alchohol several times in a row will take care of the sticking problem.

BEWARE: I use to do this too, and my "press-the-scroll-ball-and-click-the-mouse" 3rd button ceased to work right after one of those cleaning sessions. I don't know if the two events were related, but I tend to believe they were  . I might have used too much alcohol that time, though... :o [*rubbing* alcohol, don't get me wrong :p ]

Parallels just posted an update on their blog about USB 2 and 3D graphics:

Can you give us an update on USB 2.0 and 3D graphics?

We're still working on both and are still planning on including these in our next version of Parallels Worktation and Parallels Desktop. Beta launch for these products are still slated for around the turn of the year.

    w00t for competition :D

It was a mock up made based on a sketch given to them. It's not as if they had a CAD file to go from.

    There's a manual here:

    http://www.vmware.com/products/beta/fusion/fusion_getting_started_100.pdf

The beta is probably floating around the Internets by now, if you know where to look. I can't confirm that directly, but these things do leak fast.

I would be really disappointed to see a metal backing like iPod Touch has. My previous iPods from the past are so jacked up on the backside with scratches and dents. I know I'm not alone with this.

I'd prefer if the iPhone retained a glass backing like on the iPhone 4; I think it's just so sexy. But if they were going to move to metal I'd prefer an iPad-style backing.

I really hope they don't adopt the shiny InstaScratch backing, that would suck bad.

Dont count Parallels out. They will eventually have multicore support in their app, and i am sure will keep getting better over time.

do you need to have a zillion gigabites free to use time machine in a decent way?

for example, if you have a 1 gigabite film, and u delete it 'putting it in the trash, and empty trash', it's still going to be on your hard drive, taking up space, right? and will it also save your cookies, bookmarks, deleted programs,

i rarely delete stuff by accident...so i hope this can be turned off, and won't interrupt much of my normal workflow, the way things are deleted now.
