An example of a "cash cow"
Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft Office
Nearly everything else MS does is at a loss or does not generate a lot of cash.
What about all of those profits from the XBox 360????? Don't those things just consist of about $8.00 worth of plastic????? :p

Photoshop Elements 4.0 is a capable replacement for Photoshop CS2 for a lot of people, even professionals. It depends on what you're doing with it.
I've used various word processors since writing my own in the early 1980s and MS Word 4.0 was quite nice but Microsoft kept adding so many features that it's become haphazard and troublesome. It is counter-productive for a lot of people, especially when you have to revise previous documents.
Pages 2 is a useful release but it's not final. To discount it or iWork totally is not reasonable.
Yeah, isn't it nice when people decide unilaterally what is "professional" and what is not? The distinctions are totally arbitrary of course, but it's easy to see how by virtue of this thinking, Word remains dominant. Nothing else will do, because nothing else will do. What a wonderful tautology.
For the record, I've been using Pages happily and successfully since it came out. Version 2 is an improvement, as well it should be, but that's a long way from saying that version 1 was worthless.

heya,
At first, I thought it was more stable.
However something seems to have gone wrong with my audio.
iTunes won't start, when I try it brings up an error message:
The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occurred (-200).
There is no sound in Flash videos (Safari or Chrome) is missing, or any sound in Jitsi (VoIP client), or in MPlayer (Video player).
Strangely enough, QuickTime has sound. Have no idea what's going on here.
Cheers,
Victor

And by "copied Palm" of course you mean "patented themselves back before Feb. 2010."

He's referring to inductive charging, not intelligent bezel, if I am correct.
FTA:
While the art weve seen shows some form of inductive or touch charging, our sources cant confirm whether or not Apples working on its own version of cable-free juicing. Theres also a swipe area shown in the drawing which appears to be on the bottom and / or top of the device that could very well be an NFC point, but thats pure speculation on our part.
Wondering why they don't if the hardware is there and the network supports it already.
Because the hardware is in the CDMA phone on Verizon. The AT&T iphone 4 doesn't have the same chip. If the iphone 5 does, it's still up to apple and at&t to enable it.
Do you still think it's ugly?
I think all iphone mockups are ugly. Only the official iphone renders and pictures on apple's website seem to do it justice. I hated the iphone 4 from giz's pictures even.

Hey Apple - ya think your user base might be interested in Flash??
Lol.
Yeah, you know what's best for us users though - so we should be elated that you are resisting support for it tooth and nail.
OR, tell the web designers that iPhone users are interested in their videos and they need to stop using flash.

"A colleague of mine just picked up a 16 GB iPhone 4 in white. I was a bit surprised when I picked it up off his desk (I had my black 32 GB in my other hand at the same time) – it immediately felt thicker."
LOL, that's absolutely ridiculous.
Also, why is everyone feeling so sorry for the case makers...like Apple is screwing them over? It's not their responsibility to cater to the case makers.
I completely agree. No one can pick something up and "immediately" tell that it's 0.25 mm thicker than another object. I call BS.

Wow, amazing how emotional people always get whenever I make a statement that could sound slightly anti-iPod... I know you love your iPod and all (I am very fond of mine myself), but over the last few years Apple has been focusing a dispropotional amount of energy into their cute little gadget which has massively boosted their profits. For those of us that don't salivate over all things iPod, I think this is too bad.
That is all.Dude...
INTEL TRANSITION >> BRAND NEW ARCHITECTURE for the newest Towers >> 24" IMACS >> NEW MACBOOKS >> BUMP IN SPECS for MAC MINI >> LEOPARD soon and will be KICKASS
Just because people won't buy a $1200-$4000 computer as fast as they buy a $249 iPod is not Apple's fault. It's economics. Plus the same people who are buying the iPod are oftentimes the same people buying 2, 3 or more 'Pods for their relatives as gifts.
Give Apple a break. Their computer line-up is excellent.

Give it up already. This is not true. The only image you could trust is the one looking straight on for both phones and they look the same in that one. All the rest use perception to make one look thicker.
And the case issue? LMAO!
1. Apple would tell case manufacturers if this were a problem so that they could prepare.
2. The difference in thickness would be minimal (10%?? No way). So only a few cases would be affected so owners of white iphones would have to selected from a smaller variety of options. If this were a true story that is.
The only people who could possibly get upset would be owners of black iphone 4's who bought a white iphone 4's and want to use the same case. But how many people actually bought an iphone 4 less than 6 months ago and are now buying the same phone again just for the color?

Facts? You have no proof that she was faking a seizure- none whatsoever. If you want to talk facts, then speak about what you actually know. You have NO WAY to prove she was faking. What you're engaging in is speculation.
I actually know that many here have shared the same view as mine, that It's painfully obvious she wasn't having a seizure. Must of been a coincidence the seizure happened right at door exit then? Purposely done to avoid being taken outside, where she would of been in severe trouble.
Common sense always prevails.

Very Cool.
One way to elimate scratches :)
Maybe not just scratches, but fingerprints, too. If a new iPod has a screen that ends up taking up the whole front, this may be a good way to keep the front cleaner. Iirc it was one of the major complaints of a video device released by Olympus sometime back. The device had a touch screen.

schiller also said i think the day before boot camp was announced that apple wouldn't prevent users from putting windows on the intel macs, but they wouldn't facilitate it either.
There is a big difference between the things that Apple people actually say and the twisted versions that get regurgitated in the Apple rumors community.
Phil Schiller, Apples senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, said in an interview Tuesday that the company wont sell or support Windows itself, but also hasnt done anything to preclude people from loading Windows onto the machines themselves.
'Thats fine with us. We dont mind,' Schiller said. 'If there are people who love our hardware but are forced to put up with a Windows world, then thats OK.'
Link. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/10789855/page/2/)
In another interview, he said:
After Jobs' presentation, Apple Senior Vice President Phil Schiller addressed the issue of running Windows on Macs, saying there are no plans to sell or support Windows on an Intel-based Mac. "That doesn't preclude someone from running it on a Mac. They probably will," he said. "We won't do anything to preclude that."
Link. (http://news.com.com/2100-1014_3-5733756-2.html)
Apple still don't plan to sell or support Windows. And Schiller didn't say that Apple wouldn't facilitate running it. He told the truth.
That's a very different stance from the clear "absolutely not" on integrating Windows into the OS X run time.

is'nt that because apple loads all the stuff you need to run it already? i know an windows formated ipod will work on either mac or pc, but mac formated wont wonk on windows. is this just some player hate'n by windows or is there a way to run a mac formated ipod on a pc? also i've experienced my ipods (windows formated for versitility) format get corrupted on my pc. i'll be using it one day and then booom! "this ipod is not formated for blah blah blah" never ever had this happen on my mac's. is this an apple issue with the correct windows format or with windows being windows?

I'll only upgrade if this fixed the ****** animation glitches and battery drain. 4.3 h been a nightmare and the first update to it certainly didn't fix much. I'll wait for a report.
I agree with the animation glitches. For the 5 minutes I've had it on my iPhone (Did a restore, instead of upgrade), haven't noticed animation glitches like I did with 4.3 and 4.3.1, so I would say that it's a safe bet to upgrade it. Everything seems to be a lot more fluid this time around. Hope that helps. Enjoy!

OK, I have two problems with this being anything more than just a glitch.
First, it's for developers to define which devices their apps are compatible with. When Apple does bring out a new device, it has never updated the compatibility of existing apps AFAIK.
Second, if there was a new device or iOS>OSX functionality on the way, updating the App store to show compatibility would have been one of the very last stages before (or even after) launch. As we've had NO indication or rumours of either of these things being forthcoming, I really can't imagine a major launch by Apple within the next few days.
It's nice to have something to get excited about, but I think the only relevance in this placeholder is the ix to the IX Legion, i.e. it'll simply vanish without a trace.

HTC phones get updates & always have done. What is this HTC bloatware you are talking about? If you mean HTC Sense I'll laugh at you a lot. It's a brilliant add-on to Android. In fact, I couldn't imagine Android without it.
I think that's the case with a lot of phones in the UK, regarding updates. However, State side that's not true. HTC is the best at keeping most their phones up to date, but the carriers really put a strong hold on what one, and when. There are still some phones/carriers running 2.1, with no sign of 2.2 any time soon. Yet 2.3 is out.
I agree; of all the add ons for phones, sense is the best. Moto-Blur and Samsung [not sure what they call theirs?] are no where near as clean or responsive.
