Until the FT reverses route, the ONLY rational response is to either not buy the FT at all (there are competitors out there) or buy it at a news stand.
Where has been the outcry during the last 50 years during newspapers have used this for their subscribers?
So, the moment somebody offers a newspaper subscription that asks the user via a non-modal interface whether to share its data, you decide which newspaper you prefer on this basis. And if somebody had offered a newspaper which by default does not use your data (ie, requires you to check a box instead of unchecking) in the past you would have immediately switched to that newspaper?
Except that you naturally didn't do any of that (despite also naturally there being newspapers which by default do not use your data, eg, currently the The Economist).

gosh i can remember not that many years ago.. before i had established clients... rent would be due the next day and i was $100 short... then the phone rings with some new low budget client... i tell ya, those problematic and low-budget clients save the day now and again.
until you get established and can reliably and predictably pay the bills each month, be careful which projects you walk away from. once you get going, build up a supply of cash-money, enough to get you through a few bad months.
alot of people here may be established and have good and reliable income, and some may have been substantially profitable from day one, but im sure many of us can remember the early days and the lean days, when you might have taken a client you would never touch nowadays.
always make certain you can pay the bills each month, sometimes that means you have to deal with a knucklehead, or get paid substantially less than what you want, and if it turns out that you have to do just that, don't think less of yourself for it, the lean days will pass, the good days will come. many of us have been there and back, more than once.
be honorable, fair, charitable. in your spare time build websites, etc for people/groups who need them. ie, independent homeless shelters for runaway kids. add it to your portfolio if you need to, especially when your starting out.

I'm thinking about going back to 4.0.1 and just staying there. The double vibration for texts is dumb, battery life now sucks (although this only happened with 4.3+), my 3GS is quite a bit slower than what it had been, and I am also getting "call failed" each time i try to dial out for the first time.
I don't expect my 3GS to work like an iPhone 4. But I don't see anything new that I've actually found myself using to warrant putting up with any of the above issues.

in the middle of way open area at Union Square Park in NYC had 2 dropped calls. Customer services response? Install app on iphone that lets us know where your call was dropped. Sure let me do your work, and pay for that privalage.

I hope to find a blood session this month [last bled in December] but haven't tried taking a picture of myself before.
I have a video of my wife getting a cannula inserted recently (and another one of my daughter having one removed) if any one wants to see some BIG needles. :D :eek:

Samsung know they are in trouble with the Apple suits, and rightly so. But instead of just defending the suit against them, they are making stuff up to get back at Apple.
What it is, is childish.

I was not talking crap. That little tid pit I put in about the filing only if getting pissed off and sued came form our resident patent lawyer on these boards who explain why many times you only see law suits after they get sued. They go into the file if sued by so and so bring these up.
That is why many of these patents are filed away and never really sued unless antoher company starts pissing you off or acting childish like Apple. It gives you more leverage to use against them in their lawsuit against you.
I do find it funny. Fanboys cheered when Apple sued Samsung but Samsung responds and now called Samsung childish.
Fanboys call Kodak pantint trolls when they sued apple.
Fanboys cheer when Apple sued Nokia but booed about Nokia sueing apple.

My personal experience has not been bad with 4.3.1. I really wanted the upgrade for the home sharing feature, especially for my iPad. Battery life hasn't been any different in my experience, but I can't discount the others that think that they have. Does anybody have one of those fancy apps (jailbroken or not) that actually analyzes your battery with data from before and after? It would be interesting to see.

I was debating on doing the 4.3.1 update now that the jailbreak is available. Is this a bad call? It seems many are unhappy they updated their software. I am currently on 4.2.1. Any thoughts?

Hello, I recently got the texting app "Text Now". I accidentaly chose for it to not allow push notifications, even though I want it to. How would I go about fixing that? I tried re-downloading but it didn't work.
